Wet Bar Upgrade

As I mentioned during the hot water heater installation, I ran a hot water line up to the wet bar. As you can see from the picture below, the original wet bar had a very small faucet, which was only for cold water. So small, in fact, that you can't even really get your hands under it to wash them.

After a good deal of online searching, I finally found a wet bar mixing faucet that both my wife and I liked. But, since it was a polished chrome finish, a sink upgrade seemed to be in order as well. I found a suitable sink at Defender (www.defender.com). The finished install is shown below:

I did have to open up the hole for the sink a bit, but it was simple to do with an pneumatic die grinder and a carbide rotary file. The sink is sealed to the top with Silicone, while the mixer faucet is mounted on a small rubber gasket. Now, there is plenty of room to wash up, hot water is available, and the visual appearance of the wet bar is improved as well. A very cost effective upgrade, all in all.....

  2. I purchased the sink from Defender (www.defender.com). It is their item #501224. The sink is manufactured by Scandvik, and is their model #10280. A search for either number at Defender should bring it up. BTW, this same sink was also available from Scandvik directly, at a discounted price, because they had a run of factory "seconds" - sinks with minor cosmetic defects. Either way, it is a relatively inexpensive sink. Remember, you will have to enlarge the opening slightly for it to fit, and the drain will be different, so you'll have to re-route the sink drain, and also purchase a new drain fitting for the new sink. As another option, I still have my old plastic sink, if you want an original replacement instead. Let me know...

  3. Nice Job. You might consider replacing the plastic to SS Cup Holders. You can get them on ebay for about $8 each.

  4. Actually, I already did - the blog pic was taken before the cup holders were changed... I also changed the one located behind the helm seat.

  5. Hello,

I have a quick question for you, what was the faucet model number, or what website did you find the faucet on? I have a 2000 340 Sea ray with the exact wetbar set up that I would like to change the faucet/sink out on.

  6. The faucet is just a chrome plated mixer I found on Ebay, of all places. I had to open up the hole in the wet bar slightly, to accommodate it, but other than that, it was a simple addition. The only thing you might need to do, other than running a hot water line, of course, is to find the right adapters to connect the mixer lines to the boats hot and cold water lines. Whale or Seateck, or your local hardware store, should have anything needed to accomplish that. If you need more info or help, email me at ddu101@aol.com.

  7. Hi,
I searched for item 10280 on defender.com but the sink is Stainless Streel and not Chrome plated. Where can i find the same polished chrome finish plated sink?

  8. My sink is stainless - only the faucet is chrome plated. Even so, they match very well....

  10. I have 2008 340, my sink has an offset drain to the right. I believe my mini fridge would be in the way of the center drain. Am I mistaken about this? Have you seen replacement sinks of any kind with an offset drain?

    Thank you.
